New to sewing or looking to refresh your skills? This four-week evening course is the perfect place to start!
Whether you've never used a sewing machine before or it's been a while since you last sat down at one, this beginner-friendly course will help you build the skills, knowledge and confidence to start your sewing journey.
We know sewing can feel a little overwhelming at first, with all those buttons, dials, moving parts and unfamiliar terminology – but it really doesn't have to be!
Over four relaxed and supportive evening sessions, we'll guide you through the essentials of using a sewing machine while helping you create a variety of practical, beginner-friendly sewing projects to take home and proudly say, "I made that!"
Each week, you'll build on the skills you've learnt, exploring new techniques and gaining confidence as you go. By the end of the course, you'll feel much more comfortable using a sewing machine and ready to take on your next creative challenge.
No previous sewing experience is needed – just a willingness to learn, get creative and have a go!
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Throughout the four weeks, we'll cover:
Getting to know your sewing machine and understanding its different parts and functions
How to correctly thread your machine
How to wind and insert a bobbin
Choosing suitable fabrics, needles and threads for different projects
Sewing straight lines, curves and pivoting at corners
Backstitching and securing your stitches
Understanding seam allowances and common sewing terminology
Measuring, cutting and preparing fabric
Essential sewing techniques and simple finishing methods
What to include in your first sewing kit
Lots of handy tips and tricks to make sewing easier and more enjoyable!
Most importantly, you'll put your new skills into practice!
Rather than simply learning techniques, you'll create a selection of useful and enjoyable sewing projects throughout the course. Each project is designed to introduce new skills, build on what you've already learnt and give you the confidence to continue sewing independently.
