This in-depth masterclass is a comprehensive deep dive into drafting, fitting, and refining a custom-fit upper-body block. Designed for sewists ready to move beyond store-bought patterns, this course focuses on technical precision and iterative design, guiding you from measurements to a bespoke bodice block that truly fits.
You’ll learn how to translate your own body measurements into a professional front and back bodice sloper, understand how and why fit issues occur, and confidently refine your pattern through structured fitting stages. This is a hands-on, skills-led course that builds real independence in pattern cutting.
What you’ll learn
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
Draft a foundational bodice block
Create a front and back bodice sloper using individual body measurements rather than standard sizing.
Master dart manipulation
Use the slash-and-spread technique to move darts for improved fit and design flexibility.
Carry out professional fittings
Identify and correct common fit issues through muslin (toile) construction and multiple refinement stages

Course structure & schedule
To suit working professionals, the masterclass runs as evening sessions, allowing time between classes to reflect, construct, and refine.
Duration: 6 sessions
Session length: 2.5 Hours Each
Schedule: Twice weekly over 3 weeks
March Dates - 11/03, 13/03, 18/03, 20/03, 25/03, 27/03 - 6.30pm-9pm
April Dates - 22/04, 24/04, 29/04, 01/05, 06/05, 08/05 - 6.30pm-9pm
Weeks 1–2:
Taking accurate body measurements
Drafting the initial bodice block
Constructing the first muslin (toile)
Weeks 2–3:
Fit assessments and analysis
Pattern refinements through iterations
Completion of your final bodice block
What you’ll take away
You will leave with a personalised, professionally drafted bodice block, refined through fitting and iteration, a foundational pattern you can return to again and again as the starting point for future designs.
This masterclass is about understanding why patterns fit the way they do, and giving you the tools to take control of fit with confidence and precision.
Important note: This workshop focuses exclusively on pattern creation — sewing is not covered.
