Our Teens Saturday Sewcial is for young people who love textiles crafts and fashion and would like to explore their creativity further! We will support students sewing, repairing and upcycling skills whilst they learn to enhance their design, making and textile skills at their own pace.

Students will be encouraged to let their imaginations soar as they create their own unique designs and bring them to life through the art of sewing. Whether it’s crafting a trendy garment, revamping a wardrobe staple, or experimenting with bold fabric combinations, the possibilities are endless!

Teens will also have the opportunity to share ideas, help each other and forge new creative friendships.

Learning Outcomes:

Sewing components - creating neat seam finishes, buttonholes/button applications, zipper, sewing curves and points.

Paper pattern reading.

Choosing the right type of fabric and notions for your project.

Pattern preparation and layout.

Fabric cutting.

Working through a pattern step-by-step.

Full Garment Construction

Basic fitting.

Illustration prompts to fill their sketchbooks

Moodboard briefs to challenge their preconceptions

We use a combination of individualised and group instruction to ensure that teens receive the attention they require to be successful in the projects they choose.

Skill Level: 1+

We will suggest projects based on their skills and understanding once booked. Students can choose between a mix of garment making and craft sewing projects.

Students must take our Sewing Machine 101, or a private lesson or have had some experience sewing before starting. Please contact us before enrolling if your child has experience from outside The Sew In Group. While they don't need to be proficient, they must have experience winding a bobbin, threading a machine and sewing in order to make the most out of these sessions.

  • CAN WE BRING OUR OWN MACHINE?

Yes, that is always encouraged since it is best to practice on your own machine. As you know, we have a selection of Janome 219s sewing machines in the studio. If carrying a sewing machine is too heavy, you are welcome to make use of our machines.

  • Saturday Sewcials run on a monthly basis, offering consistent, creative sewing sessions in a relaxed and supportive environment.

    🔹 Monthly Cost: £35
🔹 Covers: One Sewcial session per month, including all materials, tools, and your place in the group

Your monthly payment secures your space at each session and helps us keep group sizes small, ensuring everyone receives the support they need.

If You Can’t Attend a Session

We understand that plans can change. If you’re unable to attend a session:

    • Please let us know in advance where possible

    • As sessions are limited and we do not run alternative Teen Sewcial sessions, missed sessions are non-refundable and cannot be transferred

    Cancellations

If you’d like to cancel your place at any time, we simply ask for one month’s notice.

This approach allows us to maintain a consistent, high-quality experience for all participants while keeping the group structured and manageable.

Come and experience our vibrant community of creative hobbyists in our Rochester sewing studio.
