Operational Hours: Between 1.5 – 7.5 hrs per week (weekday afternoons)

We are currently in urgent need of enthusiastic and dynamic individuals to help deliver our after school clubs within Maidstone and the surrounding area. The ideal candidate must have a naturally bubbly, confident and smiling personality, enjoy sewing and craft, sharing knowledge and be good at communicating and relating to young children. We are looking for engaging, creative thinkers who thrive under pressure, and who can educate and entertain in equal measure. A background in sewing is not required – we will train you in everything you need to know – but an interest in sewing crafts and an inquisitive mind would be beneficial. Likewise, you do not need to have professional experience of working with young people, but you must be able to demonstrate that you have a passion for working with children. As an employer within the education sector, we require all employees to apply for a Disclosure & Barring (DBS) check with us. You must be eligible to work in the UK and must have a valid UK driving licence as well as access to a car.

DURATION: Ongoing - Our Sewing Club leaders are required to work within local primary schools to deliver our after school sewing clubs which run for one hour at a time, and accommodate up to 16 children between the ages of 7-11. The clubs cover a mixture of hand sewing techniques and include demonstrations, discussion and individual sewing craft projects. All kits, equipment and lesson plans are provided. Our sewing club leaders work alone, and are therefore also responsible for the safety and welfare of the children who attend the clubs. Our clubs run on weekday afternoons during term time throughout the year. Working days are flexible, however we require at least one term’s notice (6 weeks) of any changes to availability. Including preparation and time to clear away, each club session lasts for a maximum of 1.5 hours ( £19.50 per session). This job is available on a zero hours contract, and clubs are assigned on a term by term basis. We are currently fully booked for the next two terms, and require more staff to help us keep up with demand. There are also opportunities to get involved with additional school workshops, assemblies, birthday parties and other sewing events with Sew in Kent.

APPLY: To apply, please submit a copy of your CV and a cover letter explaining why you are interested in the role to info@thesewingroup.com.
